VIVA Studio is a free, open-source platform for running voice-AI research studies, developed for academic research and operated on a non-commercial basis. By accessing this website or using the platform you agree to these Terms.
VIVA Studio lets researchers build a phone-call-style interface, connect it to an AI voice
model using their own API keys, and collect recordings and transcripts. The software is
released as open source under the MIT License. This website (viva-studio.app) is
an instance operated by the project team named in the Imprint.
Researcher accounts are intended for researchers and academic staff conducting legitimate research. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials and your API keys secure, for the costs your AI providers charge you, and for obtaining the ethics approval and participant consent your research requires.
If you reached this page from a study, you are about to take part in a scientific study in which you have a spoken conversation with an AI (artificial intelligence) voice assistant. Participation is voluntary and you may stop at any time by ending the call or closing the window. The AI's replies are generated automatically, may be inaccurate, do not represent the views of the research team, and are not professional (medical, legal, financial) advice. Please do not share sensitive personal information in the conversation.
Do not use the service to break the law, to harass or harm others, to attempt to access data or accounts that are not yours, to disrupt or overload the service, or to reverse-engineer or circumvent its security. Automated scraping of the platform is not permitted.
How data is handled is described in the Privacy Notice. Collected study data (transcripts, submissions, recordings) is end-to-end encrypted in the participant's browser before it reaches the server.
The platform is provided "as is", for research purposes, without warranty of availability, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the project team is not liable for damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, this tool, including any costs incurred with third-party AI providers.
Voice conversations are processed by the AI provider you select (e.g. OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, ElevenLabs). Their own terms and privacy policies apply to that processing.
These Terms may be updated as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
